Athena is the largest sailing yacht currently on the market (and the fourth largest in the world), and benefits from a comprehensive refit in 2011 with her ten-year survey performed in 2014. The three-masted schooner, commissioned by a knowledgeable and experienced yachtsman, and with naval architecture by Gerard Dykstra & Partners, “combines the aesthetics of traditional design with modern technology, resulting in an extraordinary vessel of timeless appeal”, Burgess says. The yacht is asking $69.9 million, with Burgess acting as joint-central agent.

On deck, the social spaces divide into intimate areas over two levels, from comfortable shaded seating and alfresco dining to relaxing sunbathing spots. The best view in the house is from the hydraulically hoisted crow’s nest, 58 metres above the deck.

Athena’s interior – designed by Rebecca Bradley – is arranged over three levels, and incorporates rich soft furnishings with lightly stained mahogany throughout. Social areas include a bridge-deck salon and media room, and a spacious main salon leading to a formal dining room. Below decks, five cabins accommodate up to ten guests with a full-beam master offering a separate study, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom with hot-tub.

Athena’s Panamax masts are rigged with some 2,500 square metres of sail power, which is controlled by touch-button technology.
