The former Soviet ice-breaker – converted to the yacht Giant I in 2002 – is now being reconfigured with an extended aft section by Verkerk Yachting Projects and Icon Yachts. She is due on the water later this year.

With exterior styling by Diana Yacht Design and a new interior by Legend Beheer, the reconfigured 77.4-metre yacht will be Lloyd’s A1 Ice class with Polar annotation. In warmer weather, up to 26 guests can be accommodated around the vast table, while inside there is a fireplace to keep you cosy in penguin country. As well as a full-beam owner’s suite, there are 13 guest suites, each themed on a different world city. Guests also benefit from a cinema and wellness area.

The garages are packed with kit for proper exploration. The U-Boat Worx three-seater submarine goes down to 300 metres below, while there is also room for a Eurocopter EC 135. As well as tenders and PWCs, there are those essentials of polar cruising – snowmobiles.

Originally built as a Soviet ice-breaker in 1974, Legend was converted to yacht use by Rene Herzog in a four-year project that started in 1998. You can find out more about Legend at Icon Yachts’ stand (QT13) at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.
