The elegant 49.9m three-masted-schooner Xarifa is on the water again.

History is everywhere aboard the 49.9-metre steel-hulled yacht – she once hosted King Edward and Mrs Simpson on board, and she was also utilised but the Danish resistance during World War II. She was built for Franklin Morse Singer, one of the many sons of the multimillionaire king of the sewing machine, Isaac Singer, who was also a well- known American yachtsman. As he did with all his yachts, he named her Xarifa, the Egyptian word for ‘charming lady’. She also appeared in the 1967 film The Sailor from Gibraltar, which starred Vanessa Redgrave and Jeanne Moreau

She took part in a number of classic regattas last season, and is available either for a spot of performance sailing or a just some cruising in timeless surroundings. Contact: Massima Piras, Fraser Yachts. Tel: +377 93 100 480. Email: massima.piras@fraseryachts.com.
