When Lürssen launched the 95-metre Kismet last summer, it enlisted the help of 3D printing experts Materialise NV to create and install the iconic 3D printed jaguar on her bow.

The 3D printed jaguar stands two metres tall and four metres long and was installed in pride of place at the bow of the luxury superyacht, with one paw proudly resting on top of an American football.

After being designed and printed, each part of the sculplure was hand finished and assembled before being given a lustrous chrome finish, truly in keeping with the bespoke craftsmanship of Kismet.

In addition to eight large guest staterooms, a helipad, swimming pool and sauna, the 95-metre Espen Øino-designed superyacht Kismet is packed with forward-thinking technology and design features, including state-of-the-art video walls and winter gardens with outdoor fireplaces.

Materialise NV holds the largest 3D printing equipment in Europe and created the jaguar by layering material according to a computer model of the design.

3D printing, or additive manufacturing, has been used to great effect in medicine with both a jawbone and 3D printed pelvis being successfully transplanted into a patient but this is the first time it has been used to crown the bow of a superyacht.
